I suppose nearly everyone has some form of appreciation they would like to express to another from their past -- but may never have the opportunity to do so.

When I was young, I didn't possess the wisdom to properly recognize gratitude and often it passed me by - like so many warm summer days.

The once tangible and real ties of our past may fade where such connections may no longer be approachable or even appropriate. Such unexpressed notions may exist solely in our hearts, as unspoken, forever. It isn't a terrible thing, but it does feel somewhat unsettled or maybe even sadly unfinished.

My friend "Fuzz Head" came back to see me the other evening. I hadn't seen him in months. He's grown a velvety set of antlers and is now quite handsome.

I am going to read this entry to my kids. Maybe I can help them grow up with less of these regrets. I know I have them, too many of them. Like you said, it isn't "terrible;" but it certainly couldn't hurt to "finish" things, as it were, and help another to flourish by passing along beautiful things like gratitude.
