Off the asphalt
Jul. 7th, 2024 08:29 pmFriday evening on my way home from my retirement career job at Piedmont Marina and Campground, I stopped on Reynolds Road to help a box turtle make his way across the right-of-way. He didn't seem very afraid as I set him down in the weeds and it got me to thinking that I've never known anyone who doesn't like these affable and gentle reptiles. There is something basic and admirable in their personalities that simply makes make me feel better about life. There's no political agenda to espouse or any oppositional opinions to express - just simply a "here I am" attitude. I felt as if I could easily confess to him any bits of loneliness which might surround me.
I think we should all be more like the box turtle.
