There is a particular sound that a taut rope makes when it is cut from a mooring. Qualities of uncertain freedom and tempered relief are gained at an instantaneous musical moment but as that same rope recoils, its song ends forever.

I wonder if there are ever echoes over open water. Some folks think there are and some don't.
