Classic writing analysis, as I learned it, was to determine meaning by deconstructing all passages collectively, whether poetry or prose, into some comprehensive and literal translation.

Although, I often prefer to not necessarily understand all the nuts and bolts of someone's writing and simply find the most value in it by the way it makes me feel. Even when I write, I'm not always sure what the heck I'm exactly trying to say, but I sure do know what I'm feeling. It's twisted, but there you have it.

I write to feel normal. If I am unable to write for long or extended stretches, I start feeling off balance.

These earthly godfathers of Heaven's lights, that give a name to every fixed star,
have no more profit of their shining nights than those that walk and know not what they are.
~ William Shakespeare

I did more "crafting" of the nuts and bolts on my most recent poem than I usually do. (sonicly it is PACKED with "one, two, three, four"s and language around counting and beats, short tight lines, rhythmic and rhyme-y (loose cause it's still me but far more than usual) to mimic the rhythm and speed of intercourse.

Most of the time I don't pay attention to what I'm doing, but only close my eyes and let the clay guide its own shaping, and only discover amazing acts of metaphor, word choice, sound, etc, months or years later. (I enjoy the dissociation of discovering what my unconscious was up to with complete surprise)
