An Imprint

There are places where I drive that are intimately familar. The essence and strength of a particular turn or the form of a dip in the road I often feel even before I approach it.

There are places where I walk that are much the same - coolness wafting from a large stone wall, the scent of sulfur from rain falling on a slag covered lot.

These imprints are not always predictable in recollection but once revisited, are instantly recognized and carry great value in every detail - just as you are to me.

I suppose some folks pass by the same places every day but may not even care -- but then again, they just might.

Ahh. I went hunting for the Northern Lights yesterday, up the A46 which is no sort of famous but is a road I know so incredibly intimately I was sure of finding a quiet place to pull in and look at the sky. I didn't see the lights but I did see loads of other cars parked in laybys doing the same thing :) And that 15 mile stretch of road really does bring me some joy every time I drive it.

Oh I think most people deeply care. Probably just many of them don't notice.
