What may change, for some

This photograph is my second grade class. I'm the boy next to the teacher's aide. The teacher wasn't one of my favorites as she would often smack students' hands with a heavy ruler.

I look at most of these kids and I still recognize most of them. When we were that age, there wasn't any collective knowledge of what it meant to be liberal, conservative, republican or democrat. It mattered more if they were kind, cruel, happy or sad.

It still matters more to me.
