So many good things come into our lives - but I can't think of very many that never come with a balancing measure of difficulty or pain.

Of course, it might be safer to sit at home, forever alone in the bluish cast of television light - TV's seldom argue or disagree. And it might be less risky to not travel outside of your house. You could be run over by a bread truck and get a bone in someone's tire. Yes, it would surely be less taxing to never have a child or share the companionship of dog or a cat - afterall they could die on you and make you terribly sad. Besides, would you really want to raise them in such a horrible world? And forget about friendships or falling in love.... why risk the potential damage?

Take a risk in feeling more pain? Why? Isn't it much simpler to close your eyes and say 'never again'?

we were swinging from the centre of the ceiling
you were afraid to give in
i said i know i'll always live for this feeling
and you closed your eyes you said never again

we were dancing in the middle of the desert
you said we'll burn under the hot sun
i said i'd rather be the colour of pleasure
than watch like you from under the thumb

A very young friend of mine, once gave me a few powerful words that stick inside me:

"A life lived in fear is a life half-lived".

It reminds me that many people choose to remain distant or numb to the hurting in life but at the same time miss the essence. I believe, it isn't about being a twisted advocate for pain, it is more about being an advocate for living.
