As everything in our lifetime changes rapidly, there a few memories that always stand as if they were printed as still photographs.

When I was five, out of nowhere, my dad let me "drive" our car up the hill to our house while I sat on his lap.  It was more just steering the thing but I'll never forget how thrilled I was. It made me feel so important.  I don't think he ever knew just how much.

This grainy photo represents one of the many times my mom and dad took us to Captina Creek. He fished and my mom made us picnic lunches while we dug around for crawdads and sported early-style thong bathing suits.

I don't know what they might be, but I hope I have left a few similar things in the hearts of my kids. It can be subtle and as a parent such moments may have passed me by without realization. It's far easier for me to recall the ways where I missed the mark in parenting.

Aww. Those are lovely memories. And the quality of the pictures reminds me of my own childhood snaps.

I think our kids judge the hits and misses to be honest. We mostly just flinch at all the inevitable fails :)
