Like many other drivers, I find myself becoming aggressive and less patient when I’m tucked away in a car and the anonymity that it affords. At times, I have to remind myself to reconsider my anger. The driver cutting me off, tailgating or lane-weaving is probably less deserving of raw and self-righteous ire than I’d like to pretend.

The other morning on the interstate, a tractor-trailer passed my car and then signaled to reenter the lane. I flashed my high-beams once; he pulled back into the lane and gave me the familiar clearance-lights flash as a thank you. Such a connection isn’t as trivial as it might seem and beyond any observable highway antics considerate responses are important, whether they involve steering wheels or keyboards.
