No, I do not want to join hands in the Wegovy parade (just where are those folks heading anyhow?) but it does make me wonder why pharmaceutical companies spend outlandish and possibly even ridiculous amounts of money on prescription medication commercials and then further enjoin me to "ask my doctor about" them. Not to pick on one medication, but the list is seemingly endless: Austedo - where an awkward orange mug is thrown in our faces; or Ozempic - where everyone wants to get in the tri-zone, lower their A1C and lose weight; Jardience - where you can dance with joy and disease in an over-produced dance line; Skyrizi - where you can ride in a sailboat group, go on a ferris wheel, rollerblade or paraglide because "control is everything " or where "nothing is everything", depending on the usage.

More seriously, many of these sales pitches nearly infer that having any of the depicted diseases these medications are purported to alleviate, is a great thing and you'll be much happier, healthier, more active and live a more connected social life, if you consume them.

Do I then need a disease to feel better about my life?

It seems, especially with the recent explosion of GLP-1 medications for everyday weight loss, that it is better, or at least more socially acceptable to treat medical conditions on the backside, rather than first focusing on and employing preventative or prophylactic health measures in order to attain a state of better health.

It all just seems so backwards.

I digress. I know with family genetics, that my high-blood pressure would be out-of-control without medication and I am very grateful that this prescription and the research it took to develop it, will likely keep me from having strokes similar to the ones that ultimately killed my father. However, if large pharmaceutical companies wield too much power in the direction of our healthcare coupled with the added lure of bigger profits influencing federal regulations, it may create a less-than-desirable situation.

I guess I dont have any answers. I'm just getting so tired of seeing these extravagant commercials.
