At the edge of a small field that I was mowing the other day, there is a collection of burrs which reminded me of young days of wool socks and sweaters that never lost the scent of mothballs.
Yesterday along U.S. Route 40, a man was lying on the berm in the rain...hugging a large dog that had just gotten hit by a car. It made me feel powerless and very sad.

Vetch to Daisy
I hadn't even noticed
you forever silent
along the road
I yearned for grand
but you were more
than I knew to see
Flower shop items
languished in my hand
as you became beautiful

Acquiescence
Tacit expressions of love are really the most precious, especially when contrasted to emotional vampirism...
Grab a daisy-flower
agree with it over and over
shower it with gifts of water
claim it is yours
then as it begins to wilt:
demand its attention
shake it until it understands just
how much you love(d) it and
then tell it how fortunate it was -
discard it promptly when
it languishes or turns brown
It seems pretty much the same to me, whether it's a Daisy-flower, pet, or person.
