When trees get big, they cut them down and plant sapplings with plastic tags on them and in this way, the new kids in the home (they call new) can swim in plastic pools near them, get scraped knees and run to mom and dad when they get stung by a bee and can fancy that it will take at least a hundred lifetimes for that tree to ever become too big.
When trees get big, the kids are gone and of course the tree is too large for many but being old, it feels just right even if it's too close to the house, or its shade makes moss grow all over and it finally says that it only took fractions of a lifetime to get here and even though the house is beginning to smell like a grandparent's house, the tree still knows how fresh it was years before, but then the trunks swelled and saw every purposeful spring, before anyone ever realized it might happen.
