It is wonderful that another's expression of sadness or pain isn't at all additive to our own.

In part, it is a small light to the often puzzling quality found in those who find such willingness to work with the sick or dying. And to those who don't know, it isn't morbid - it is beautiful.

I am reminded:

The faithful hand of the living does not desert the hand of the dying
~ Walt Whitman, From: To Think of Time, Book XXIX, Leaves of Grass

When doing the laundry these days, I usually have to turn your clothes right-side in. Trying to shake it on your plate, you sprinkle parmesan cheese all over the counter and floor.  I don't like it but...

I remember years ago, a day off of work,  was to take her to get chemo or some kind of scan. And near the end, I had to do the caregiving,  laundry, cleaning, and kid things. I didn't like it much then but after you passed, I missed it way more than I ever imagined I could.

Because then, if I dropped a piece of paper under the desk, it would certainly sit there for an eternity... unless I took care of it. That is what makes for lonely.
